Rockpile Recreation Area

in 1918, Wilson Dam was constructed along the Tennessee River in northwest Alabama. It is the only neoclassical-style dam in the TVA system, and it created the Wilson Reservoir, known as the Smallmouth Bass Capital of the World. It's also the inspiration for this beautiful playground at the Rockpile Recreation Area. Our designers replicated the cascading waters that flow across the spillways, the fish that are caught in the river and the centuries-old trees that line the river banks. If your community has a story to tell, Playworx can bring it to life and make it part of an unforgettable play space.

An Active Play Area that Tells a Story and Blends With the Natural Surroundings

  • Recreate the surroundings to infuse history and geography into the playground
  • Incorporate customized climbers, slides, and swings to promote active play
  • Design realistic GFRC play sculptures featuring cascading waters, small mouth bass, and other elements of the Wilson Dam facility
  • Add accessible safety surfacing with graphics to replicate the look of a river on the playground
